Callison Tighe and Robinson donates $10,000 to Harvest Hope

November 28, 2012

COLUMBIA, SC – November 28, 2012- Callison Tighe & Robinson is reaching out to those in need with a $10,000 contribution to Harvest Hope Food Bank, marking the fourth consecutive holiday season the firm has made such a donation.

Pictured at right: From left, Michael Tighe and Rick Detwiler of CallisonTighe & Robinson present Harvest Hope CEO Denise Holland with a$10,000 check to help the food bank help South Carolinians during theholiday season.

There are so many families right here in our backyard that rely on Harvest Hope for survival, Callison Tighe partner Rick Detwiler said. Our donation means that 650 families will have nutritious, healthful food for a month. If our example encourages just a few others in the business community to give similar donations, our gift and the families it helps will have grown exponentially.

The Callison Tighe contribution will help families in the 20 central South Carolina counties where Harvest Hope provides a half million meals every month. In South Carolina, 17 percent of the population lives below the poverty line, and that includes 23 percent of the children, Detwiler says. Every day Harvest Hope sees South Carolinians who have to chose between food, shelter and medicine. Callison Tighe is pleased to be able to help provide a little breathing room for some who are struggling.

Harvest Hope helps almost 2 million people a year, and the holiday season is a crucial time. Donations this year are at record lows even as the economy continues to struggle and more families need assistance. Requests for help from Harvest Hope have doubled in the past year as donations have fallen, Detwiler said. That’s a sobering statistic. We hope many other individuals and businesses in our community will hear this call for help.

Harvest Hope’s programs range from emergency food pantries to distribution of commodity foods, with 98 percent of the donations collected going directly to people who need help. Harvest Hope also operates a mobile food pantry, and it helps with programs that provide for children after school and during times when school isn’t in session. It partners with 476 non-profit agencies to make sure help goes where it’s needed.
