Campsites at Congaree National Park now available through online reservation system

January 27, 2016

HOPKINS, SC – Developed campsites at Congaree National Park can now be reserved through an online registration system. Reservations for campsites at Longleaf and Bluff campgrounds can be made online through Recreation.gov, a national reservation system which includes numerous federal areas nationwide and provides opportunities for trip planning, information sharing and reservations.

Reservations can also be made by phone at 877-444-6777.

“It’s a great opportunity for folks who wish to plan their trip,” says Park Ranger Jonathan Manchester, “you can actually go online, pick your site, and pay.” For those that show up at the park without a reservation, there will still be opportunities to camp. If there are sites available campers can register and pay onsite.

The implementation of the camping reservations is part of efforts to improve services for visitors to Congaree National Park. In addition to the developed camping areas, visitors can camp in the backcountry in the park. While there is no fee or reservation required for backcountry camping, visitors must pick up a permit onsite. “Camping is a great way to experience this park,” says Manchester, “We encourage folks to take a look at the new reservation system and come explore this special place!”
