Carol Browning Named Executive Director at Greenville Literacy Association

Former BI-LO Charities and supermarket executive takes over non-profit’s reins 

GREENVILLE, SC – July 29, 2013 – The Greenville Literacy Association Board of Directors has named Carol HasBrouck Browning as Executive Director of the Greenville Literacy Association to replace Jane Thomas, who retired after fifteen years of service to the organization. 

Ms. Browning most recently served as the Executive Director of BI-LO Charities, Inc., and is well-known in Upstate business and civic circles.  In her prior position, she managed the largest one-day charity golf tournament in the United States, with over 1,300 golfer participants and the direct distribution of charitable grants of over $3 million annually.  In addition to her non-profit executive experience, Ms. Browning served with BI-LO, LLC for ten years in positions including Vice President of Marketing and Branding and Director of Advertising.

A graduate of Boise State University, Ms. Browning has also completed additional executive studies at Cornell University.  Her past community involvement included service on the Board of Directors for the Greenville Literacy Association, where she served as President in 2011, as well as holding director positions with Junior Achievement and Trout Unlimited.  She is a 2010 graduate of Leadership Greenville and currently serves on the Board Advisory Council of SC Telco Federal Credit Union.

 

The mission of the Greenville Literacy Association is to empower adults to participate more effectively in the community by providing quality instruction in reading, writing, math, and speaking English.  Greenville Literacy staffs five adult literacy learning centers across Greenville County, and conducts Adult Basic Education, Pre-GED, and English as a second language programs in the county.
