Carolina Nephrology Donates Over $4,000 to National Kidney Foundation

Upstate Kidney Walk Raises over $53,000
GREENVILLE, SC – Carolina Nephrology, presenting sponsor of the 2015 Upstate Kidney Walk, proudly presented the National Kidney Foundation with a check for over $4,000.
The walk took place on Sunday, April 26 at Furman University and brought community members together to raise awareness and fund lifesaving programs to fight the battle against kidney disease. Over $53,000 was raised for the National Kidney Foundation through this year’s walk.
Funds generated from the walk will be used to further kidney research, provide free health screenings, support patients, donors, and doctors, improve patient care, and provide an educational resource about kidney disease and prevention.
Education about kidney disease and prevention is extremely prevalent at a time when one in three Americans is affected by diabetes or heart disease, both risk factors responsible for two thirds of kidney disease cases. As early detection can prevent the progression of kidney disease to kidney failure, the walk inspired upstate community members belonging to high risk groups including those with diabetes, hypertension, and a family history of the disease, to participate in regular screenings while stimulating support for kidney patients and others affected by the disease.
