GREENVILLE, SC – Elliott Davis, one of the largest accounting, tax and consulting services firms in the Southeast, is pleased to announce that Caroline Van Hook has been named one of 2014’s “Women to Watch” by the South Carolina Association of Certified Public Accountants (SCACPA).

Van Hook was recognized at the October 21 SCACPA Women in Leadership Conference in Columbia, S.C. She was one of three honorees in the Experienced Leader category, which recognizes CPAs who hold leadership positions within their firm and have made significant contributions to the accounting profession, their workplaces and their communities.

Van Hook, a shareholder in the firm’s Greenville office, provides tax planning and compliance services to both businesses and individuals. With more than 20 years of public accounting experience, she leads Elliott Davis’ Professional Services practice, serving a client base of physicians, attorneys, engineers, architects and staffing firms.

“Caroline faces unique challenges in her practice, assisting clients with both financial and operational objectives,” said Rick Davis, managing shareholder of Elliott Davis. “She launched our Professional Services practice two years ago that now comprises 17 professionals. Her exceptional mentoring and leadership is noticed by both her team and her clients.”

Van Hook coaches several colleagues, offering everything from hands-on training to career advice. She also serves as a guide in the firm’s Emerging Leaders Academy, an accelerated Leadership Development program. Over the years Van Hook has been an advocate for her female colleagues and has actively collaborated with the firm’s Women’s Development Council. She serves as a sounding board for various issues, including female talent retention and flexible work arrangements for working mothers.

“As a mother of two, Caroline understands the importance of employer support for working parents,” said Bob Wilson, chief human resources officer at Elliott Davis. “She has helped employees develop business plans to create work/life balance and strives to create opportunities within the firm to allow our women to be successful in their roles at Elliott Davis.

Van Hook is equally dedicated to improving her community. She is an active board member of the Greenville Local Development Corporation and the Greenville New Markets Opportunity II. She is also involved with the Riley Institute’s efforts of diversity training for the Upward Bound Group at Greenville Tech. She mentors students and helps prepare them for college, many of whom will be the first in their family to attend. Additionally, Van Hook served as a board member for the United Way of Greenville County and as a loaned executive, helping other companies with their corporate fundraising campaign. She is also involved with a variety of professional organizations, including the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and SCACPA.
