CARTA board member Alfred Harrison honored with SCDOT Transit Board Member of the Year award

The Charleston Area Regional Transportation Authority (CARTA) is honored to announce that veteran board member, Alfred Harrison, has been awarded the South Carolina Department of Transportation’s (SCDOT) Transit Board Member of the Year Award.

The award is given to an individual who has made outstanding contributions to the improvement of public transportation in their local community and across the state of South Carolina.

A longtime board member, Harrison has sat on the CARTA Board since its inception in 1997 and served as the Secretary/Treasurer for the CARTA Board of Directors from 1999 until 2012. A lifelong resident of North Charleston, Harrison has worked for the United States Air Force, the Charleston County School District and the City of North Charleston.

In addition to his work with CARTA, Harrison is a member of Riverbend Baptist where he has served on the Board of Deacons and is a past trustee. He also served on the City of North Charleston Zoning Board of Appeals and is a certified poll manager and a 32nd Mason.
