Cason Development Group developing C&T law offices

April 16, 2020

Cason Development Group announces the development of a new office building at 1717 Marion St. for the Columbia law firm of Cavanaugh and Thickens

The 2-story, 6,800-square-foot, single-tenant Class A building in Columbia’s Central Business District is currently under construction and scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2020.

“We are very excited about this new building and its location in the heart of Columbia,” said J. Eric Cavanaugh of Cavanaugh & Thickens. “This building will provide us with more opportunities to grow and will allow us to better serve those injured in accidents throughout the Midlands and all throughout the state of South Carolina.”

Cason is working with Boyer Construction as the general contractor, Seed Architecture for design/plans, and The LandPlan Group South for engineering. All are Columbia-based firms.

The building will sit on a former parking lot on the west side of Marion Street between Blanding and Laurel streets. Originally 1328 Laurel St.,  the lot has entrances on both Laurel and Marion streets, but the building will front Marion Street.

“This project has been particularly exciting for us as much of our work inside of Columbia has been centered around reviving and repurposing existing and often times historic buildings,” said Frank Dougherty, development coordinator for Cason. “This project gave us the freedom to design a new building to blend the commercial and residential feel of the surrounding historic area.  We spent a lot of time on the design to make sure the building fit in with the historic properties around it.  We are excited to see Cavanaugh and Thickens occupy it this summer.”

Cavanaugh and Thickens, Attorneys at Law, is currently located at 1324 Gadsden St. in the Congaree Vista.
