September 23, 2026

Charleston County School District (CCSD) Chief Financial Officer Daniel Prentice has been appointed to the Government Finance Officers Association’s (GFOA) Budget Committee, a national committee focused on advancing best practices in public-sector budgeting and financial management.  Prentice will serve a three-year term beginning September 2026 and ending September 2029. The committee meets throughout the year to support GFOA’s work in developing guidance and recommended practices for government finance professionals.

“This is a well-deserved recognition of Daniel’s leadership and the high standards he brings to our district every day,” said CCSD Superintendent Anita Huggins. “Daniel and his team have worked incredibly hard to make our budget more transparent, accessible, and directly connected to the needs of our students and schools. I am proud that his expertise will now help inform this important work on a national level.”

The appointment comes as CCSD continues to strengthen its approach to budgeting and financial transparency. The district recently received GFOA’s Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the second consecutive year, with special recognition for its performance measures.

“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve on GFOA’s Budget Committee,” said Prentice. “There is tremendous value in learning from finance professionals across the country and sharing the work happening here in Charleston County. Ultimately, good budgeting and strong fiscal practice is about making sure our resources are aligned with our priorities and creating the greatest possible impact for students.”

As a committee member, Prentice will participate in GFOA meetings and ongoing work on public-sector budgeting in Washington, DC, supporting and promoting the professionalism of budget practitioners by developing best practices and policy positions.
