November 4, 2026

Longtime district leader brings nearly 13 years of experience, trusted leadership, and a strong commitment to serving students and staff

Charleston County School District (CCSD) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Reidenbach as Deputy Chief Operating Officer. A highly respected leader with nearly 13 years of service to CCSD, Reidenbach brings extensive experience in district operations, emergency management, strategic planning, and organizational leadership to his new role.

Reidenbach has earned the trust and respect of colleagues throughout the district through his steady leadership and commitment to supporting schools, staff, and families. His appointment represents an opportunity to build upon his experience and expand his impact across the district.

“Michael is one of those exceptional leaders who has earned the respect of everyone around him, not just because of what he knows, but because of who he is,” said Superintendent Anita Huggins. “He is thoughtful, dependable, solutions-oriented, and deeply committed to the people we serve. He understands our schools, our employees, and the importance of ensuring that our operations support the work happening in classrooms every day. This position is a wonderful opportunity for Michael to use his many talents and strengths in an even greater capacity, and I couldn’t be more excited for him or for our district.”

As Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Reidenbach will work alongside Chief Operating Officer Jeff Borowy to provide strategic leadership and oversight of the district’s operational functions. These include: capital construction, facilities maintenance, security and emergency management, transportation, nutrition services, and other essential support services.

“Michael has an extraordinary understanding of this district and what it takes to keep a large, complex organization operating effectively,” said Borowy. “Throughout his career, he has earned the respect of our principals, staff, and community partners because he listens, follows through, and genuinely cares about doing what’s best for our schools. I am looking forward to working even more closely with him as we continue strengthening the services and support our schools depend on.”

Reidenbach joined CCSD in 2013 as Campus Safety Coordinator and has served in progressively responsible leadership roles, including Interim Security Officer, Director and Executive Director of Security and Emergency Management, and most recently, Associate of Security and Emergency Management.

During his tenure, he has led numerous districtwide safety and operational initiatives, including the implementation of enhanced school security measures, the development of comprehensive emergency operations plans, and the deployment of the Centegix wearable panic button system across 90 CCSD schools and offices. He has also built strong partnerships with local law enforcement agencies and district departments to improve emergency preparedness and support safe learning environments.

Prior to joining CCSD, Reidenbach served in law enforcement with the Mount Pleasant Police Department and Clemson University Police Department.

Reidenbach holds a Master of Public Administration from Clemson University and the University of South Carolina and a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies from Clemson University. His contributions have earned him recognition, including CCSD’s Meritorious Service Award in 2024, and he was named a finalist for Campus Safety magazine’s K-12 Security Director of the Year in 2022.

In his new position, Reidenbach will continue his longstanding commitment to serving CCSD’s students, employees, and families while helping lead the operational systems that support the district’s continued success.
