CCSD taking site applications for 2016 Seamless Summer Feeding Program

April 5, 2016

Approved sites receive free breakfast and lunch meals for children and teens

With summer right around the corner, it’s time to think about keeping hungry children eating healthy while school is out. Charleston County School District’s Nutrition Services Department will provide free breakfast and lunch meals to approved sites through its Seamless Summer Feeding Program (SSFP). The program will operate from Monday, June 6 – Friday, August 5. We operate Monday through Friday (no weekends) and will be closed for July 4th only.

Breakfast and home-made hot lunch meals are prepared at one of ten meal preparation sites (CCSD school kitchens/cafeterias). Approved summer sites – like schools, camps, community and recreation centers, churches, etc. – pick up their breakfast and lunch meals on a daily basis from one of these ten locations. All necessary serving and eating utensils, plates, napkins, condiments etc. are provided.

Meals are available for pick-up throughout Charleston County, including McClellanville, North Charleston, James Island, Johns Island, Hollywood, downtown and West Ashley.

Applying to become a site that receives free breakfast and lunch meals is simple. Just go to ccsdschools.com and click on “Summer Meals.”  CCSD’s Seamless Summer Feeding Program website has everything you need to get started including: a site eligibility map, dates of operation, site application, menu, training dates, meal pick-up sites (schools), and FAQs.

The deadline for submitting your application is Friday, May 6, 2016.
