Celebrating Agriculture: Laurens County Spotlight on Agriculture’s 50th Annual Event

February 16, 2024

The Laurens County Spotlight on Agriculture is gearing up for its 50th annual event on March 14, 2024, at First Presbyterian Church in Clinton. Organized by the Clemson University Cooperative Extension Service Advisory Committee for Laurens County, this event has become a cherished tradition, focusing on the multifaceted aspects of agriculture, and addressing community concerns unique to Laurens County.

The primary goal of the Spotlight on Agriculture is to shed light on the pivotal role agriculture plays in the county, paying tribute to the hardworking farmers, their families, and their significant contributions to the community. It serves as a platform to raise awareness about the challenges and triumphs of the agricultural sector while fostering a sense of unity among the residents.

This year’s event promises to be particularly insightful, with Dr. Steven L. Marks from the Clemson School of Veterinary Medicine as the keynote speaker. A Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine, Dr. Marks brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to the stage. Having joined Clemson in 2023 from North Carolina State University, he has a distinguished career in small animal internal medicine and a notable list of awards recognizing his teaching excellence.

Bryan Smith, Laurens County Extension Agent, emphasizes the importance of the Spotlight on Agriculture event: “This annual gathering serves as a crucial platform to recognize the pivotal role of agriculture in Laurens County and to strengthen the bond between the farming community and the residents. It’s a celebration of hard work, dedication, and the agricultural heritage that defines our county.”

To support the event, various sponsorship levels are available, each offering unique opportunities for businesses and individuals to contribute. The Gold Level Sponsorship, Silver Level Sponsorship, Bronze Level Sponsorship, and Friend of Agriculture options provide varying levels of visibility and participation, allowing sponsors to support the agricultural community.

Tickets for the event are priced at $10 per person and must be purchased in advance, as no tickets will be available at the door. For additional information or to purchase tickets or a sponsorship, interested individuals can call 864-984-2514.
