Census Participation Deadline is September 30th

September 15, 2020

Have you completed the census survey? If not, you have until September 30th to get it done.

County Council and other local community leaders continue to urge residents to complete the census before the deadline. The latest report from the US Census Bureau shows that Laurens County has only a 55.7% self-response rate, which is down almost 3% from the last count in 2010.

It matters and here’s why.

The census is used to set funding for our schools, roads, internet access, healthcare, and hundreds of other critical community programs. Census data is also used for economic development and we need accurate data to recruit employers. And, finally, the census determines representation. While SC is not projected to gain or lose a house seat at this point in time, the best way to protect our representation and to ensure it reflects our population is to have a complete count of all SC residents.

It just takes a few minutes to complete so please do your part and complete the census survey.  The census can be completed online here:  https://my2020census.gov
