Central Carolina Community Foundation presents the ninth annual Midlands Gives Day on May 3

April 6, 2022

Following another record-breaking year in 2021 with $3.34 million raised, Central Carolina Community Foundation welcomes more than 540 local nonprofits to its ninth annual Midlands Gives Day. The 18-hour online giving challenge takes place on Tuesday, May 3 from 6 a.m. to 11:59 p.m. Gifts of $10 or more will invest for impact in the community by supporting local nonprofit organizations. Early giving is now open at www.MidlandsGives.org.

“Our region’s nonprofit organizations provide support and services throughout our 11-county footprint,” says JoAnn Turnquist, president and CEO of Central Carolina Community Foundation. “Midlands Gives allows people to invest in our local communities by investing in nonprofits.”

EmmanuWheel, a Lexington County nonprofit that builds wheelchair ramps for mobility-impaired community members who cannot afford the cost, is a testament to the impact that support through Midlands Gives has on the local community. “We make our impact one person or one family at a time,” says Donna Groomes, EmmanuWheel board member. “Midlands Gives has enabled us to reach our goal of building more ramps each year than the previous year.”

Since its inception in 2014, Midlands Gives has raised nearly $16 million for hundreds of local nonprofits, helping them amplify their impact, administer public services and improve the quality of life in the Midlands.

Nonprofits are grouped by 10 categories on the Midlands Gives website — animals, arts and culture, community improvement, education and scholarships, environment, faith-based, health, human services, veterans and military and youth development – and can be filtered by Black-led, Black-benefiting or county. Nonprofits are represented from Calhoun, Clarendon, Fairfield, Kershaw, Lee, Lexington, Newberry, Orangeburg, Richland, Saluda and Sumter counties.  Early Giving for Midlands Gives is Now Open

Early giving for Midlands Gives Day opened on April 1 at www.MidlandsGives.org. All donations made now through May 3 will count toward leaderboard totals and make nonprofits eligible for various prizes. The platform will re-open for regular year-round giving on May 4.

Join the Virtual Fun at the Midlands Gives Online Headquarters

Midlands Gives Day will be livestreamed on the Foundation’s Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/CentralCarolinaCommunityFoundation. Community members are invited to join the virtual celebration and cheer for local nonprofits by commenting and sharing. Nearly $200,000 in prizes are available and surprise challenges will be announced during the day, giving viewers the opportunity to help their favorite nonprofits win additional dollars.

How to Donate on Midlands Gives Day

The Midlands Gives platform, www.MidlandsGives.org, is hosted through Neon One and can be accessed on a mobile device or desktop. It features a leaderboard, prize tracker and searchable profiles of the more than 540 participating nonprofits. Donors can add multiple organizations to a “shopping cart” with donation sizes of their choice. One hundred percent of each contribution, less a 2.2% credit card fee and a 2.8% Neon One technology fee, will go directly to the donor’s selected nonprofit. Donors have the option to cover these fees at checkout. The Community Foundation does not receive any fees from Midlands Gives.

Resources to Help Nonprofits Succeed

Midlands Gives provides a year-round platform for nonprofit organizations to increase awareness, donors and dollars. Nonprofits also have access to capacity-building workshops hosted by the Community Foundation.

Create a Business Giving Page

A Midlands Gives Business Giving Page is an easy way to promote employee engagement while giving back to meaningful causes. The pages allow businesses to display their logo and information and include a unique URL that can be shared with customers and employees. When employees donate to Midlands Gives, they will have the option to select their employer. Businesses will be able to track this information through a secure portal, which will help them determine the causes their employees hold dear and will help them honor the donations with an optional employer match.
