Chakisse Newton Named 2012 Young Leader of the Year

COLUMBIA, SC – October 3, 1012 – Chakisse Newton, president of Cardinal Consulting LLC, has been named the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce 2012 Young Leader of the Year. The Chamber honored Newton at its 2012 Annual Gala.

Each year, the Chamber recognizes a young professional who has shown outstanding leadership and commitment both to promoting the business community and to demonstrating a spirit of civic involvement to improve the Midlands region. Chakisse exemplifies the qualities and the potential that provide Columbia with one of its most competitive assets: talented leaders, said Ike McLeese, president and CEO of the Greater Columbia Chamber. In addition to being a passionate community advocate and a successful entrepreneur, she has been a catalyst for change through her leadership in groups like COR, Columbia Opportunity Resource. She is a rising star and we are honored to recognize her.

Newton is committed to community service. She is a 2011 graduate of Blueprint for Leadership and a 2011 Leadership Columbia Alumni. She is the current board chair for COR and also serves on the boards of the Greater Columbia Chamber of Commerce, the Navigating from Good to Great Foundation and the Friends of Richland County Public Library. In addition, she serves as sponsorship chair on the Campaign Committee for the United Way of the Midlands.

Professionally, she is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators, the American Society for Training and Development, Toastmasters International and the National Speaker’s Association. She graduated summa cum laude from Boston University with a B.A. in International Relations.
