Chapin Downtown Farmer’s Market to debut May 6 – Market to be held first Saturdays of month through October
Chapin residents will have a new place to buy fresh produce, handmade items like candles and soaps, and participate in interactive demonstrations that promote healthy eating and active lifestyles when the Chapin Downtown Farmer’s Market debuts on Saturday, May 6. The market will run from 8:30 – 11 am in the 100 block of Clark Street in downtown Chapin.
Sponsored by the Town of Chapin and in cooperation with a grant from Eat Smart, Move More Lexington County, the market will provide opportunities for locals to access fresh produce, meats and other related agricultural products along with some handmade arts and crafts, health and wellness information, and live music. It will be like a mini-Soda City for Chapin.
Each month’s market will have a unique theme. May is All About MOM, which encourages people to think of the special mothers in their lives. Shelly Daugherty, a licensed massage and body work therapist with Chapin’s Essential Wellness, will provide a 30-minute demonstration beginning at 9:30 am on ways to minimize back pain and stress through a variety of methods. Local musician Curt London will also be performing during the market, and market shoppers can enjoy some hot coffee and breakfast treats from the Coffee Shelf, too.
“We want people to enjoy spending their Saturday mornings walking around in downtown Chapin,” explained Chapin’s communications and economic development director. “Several communities across the state have markets that provide a convenient opportunity for people to deal directly with the local farmers to get fresh produce, dairy products, herbs and meat that is produced right here in South Carolina. These local markets also offer artisans, musicians and other agricultural-related product entrepreneurs a chance to showcase their talents, too. We have some fun activities planned and hope to create a family-friendly environment that will bring people back each month.”
Currently, Big Belly Farm, Bowers Farms, Mt. Horeb’s Community Garden, Staci’s Scentsations, The Classy Cruet, Agu’s All Natural Salve, Rosie’s Toffee have all secured space for the opening market.
