Chapin proclaims October 23 – 29 as Environmental Systems Operator Week

October 20, 2016

The Chapin Town Council passed a resolution at its Tuesday council meeting to proclaim October 23 – 29, 2016, as Environmental Systems Operator Week. In Chapin, the Chapin Utilities Department’s operations and maintenance staff are environmental systems operators, which contribute to the quality of life by using their integrated knowledge of engineering and the physical sciences to solve contemporary environmental problems.

The 2016 observance of Environmental Systems Operators Week calls attention to the many contributions made by Environmental Systems Operators to our quality of life while raising awareness of the importance of protecting and conserving our natural resources. South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has also issued a statewide proclamation for the observance, and it is Chapin’s third annual recognition of Environmental Systems Operators Week.

According to Chapin Utilities Director Andy Metts, environmental systems operators protect more lives in one day than all the licensed physicians do in one year.

“We continue to be proud of our Chapin Utilities Department staff for their professionalism and commitment to excellence in protecting public health and the environment,” said Chapin Mayor Skip Wilson.
