Character Education Conference Planned

COLUMBIA, SC – July 17, 2009 – A one-day conference that will focus on helping people learn to incorporate character in their lives will be held at Orangeburg-Calhoun Technical College on Saturday, August 15, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

The 2009 Character Education Conference is co-sponsored by the South Carolina Department of Education’s Office of Community and Parent Services and the Orangeburg County Community and will feature a variety of break-out sessions that highlight current initiatives and trends.  In addition to specific tracks for teachers, students, business and government, as well as community participants (faith-based organizations, family and citizens), participants will have an opportunity to network and visit vendor booths.

This year’s theme is “Character: Enhancing the Spirit and Creating the Change.”

The SDE’s Character Education program promotes comprehensive character development in South Carolina by advancing knowledge, encouraging partnerships and creating opportunities for professional development.

Registration for the conference is $50, with breakfast, lunch and materials provided.  Forms are available at the Orangeburg Chamber of Commerce or online at www.orangeburgcharacter.com.
