Charleston-based Terressentia opens distillery in Kentucky

Charleston, South Carolina based Terressentia Corporation announce the opening of its bourbon distillery in Owensboro, Kentucky.

The historic 26 acre distillery dates back to the late 1800’s and is now totally modernized after two years of renovations. It was named in honor of O.Z. Tyler, the co-inventor of the company’s patented TerrePURE® process. This distilling process removes impurities from spirits through ultrasonic energy, and other natural processes.

“We are excited our renovations are complete at the O.Z. Tyler Distillery and now we have a fully modern, automated distillery within a set of beautiful historic buildings. We have big plans for the future and will be producing more than 30 thousand barrels of bourbon annually,” said Terressentia Corporation CEO, Earl Hewlette.

The grand opening celebration on September 1st will feature remarks by bourbon historian and internationally renowned whiskey writer, Chuck Cowdery.

The O.Z. Tyler Distillery, currently employs 12 workers with plans to add up to 75 employees when fully operational. Future plans include increasing production to 75,000 barrels of bourbon annually, the construction of a visitor’s center and museum and the goal of becoming a stop on the famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail.

The 25 million dollar investment is in partnership with the Kentucky Economic Development Finance Authority (KEDFA) which approved tax incentives up to 1.2 million dollars through the Kentucky Business Investment program.
