Charleston Law offers admissions for students to start school in January

November 16, 2015

CHARLESTON, SC –  The Charleston School of Law today announces applications are now being accepted for spring 2016 semester enrollment.  School officials said they are excited about the new application opportunity.  Applications are available atwww.LSAC.org until Jan. 13, 2016. Classes will begin a week later.

“Spring admission provides a unique and exciting opportunity for students who wish to begin their law school careers early” said Student Bar Association President Matt Kelly. “It also allows professionals and undergraduate students who graduate in December an option other than waiting around for the typical August start date. Perhaps the greatest benefit of the program is that it allows students to graduate in two and a half years.”

The spring start date for incoming students will allow them to complete their J.D. (juris doctor degree) in 2.5 years, half a year less than the typical law school track. Those who enroll in January 2016 will follow a curriculum that allows them to be on pace to graduate with the current first-year class in May 2018. Prospective students who are registered for the December 2015 LSAT will have their test scores reviewed as part of their application for January 2016 enrollment.

The decision to begin enrolling students in the spring semester comes on the heels of the school’s announcement of a new president and managing director, J. Edward “Ed” Bell III.  Students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members have warmly embraced the school’s new change in leadership and direction.

“We firmly believe that with the induction of Ed Bell as our new president and managing director there is no better place to be than the Charleston School of Law and no better time to be here than now” said Dean Andy Abrams. “His arrival signals a bright and exciting future for our law school and most particularly our students. Building on the incredibly strong relationship between our students and faculty, which has always been the hallmark of our school, plans are now underway to expand significantly our hands-on learning experiences that are designed to put our graduates in the most competitive position possible as they enter the profession.”

Jacqueline Bell, assistant dean of Admission, added, “Faculty, staff and students are very excited about the recent changes and bright future of Charleston Law. The Office of Admission is looking forward to helping the school begin a new chapter by welcoming new students for the spring semester.”

In addition to adding the new enrollment term, Bell’s future plans include the establishment of a new state-of-the-art permanent campus in downtown Charleston, offering clinical programs to students and creating a Court of General Jurisdiction for students to receive hands-on training.
