Charleston Parks Conservancy seeking proposals for Hampton Park Café, multi-use community center

CHARLESTON, SC – The Charleston Parks Conservancy is seeking a partner to develop, operate and manage a new multi-use community center and café at Hampton Park. Today the Conservancy released a request for proposals (RFP), inviting interested entities to make a proposal to renovate and operate these facilities in partnership with the Conservancy, consistent with the Conservancy’s master plan and agreement with the City of Charleston for the use of the City-owned facilities in Hampton Park.

Anyone considering submitting a RFP is encouraged to attend a pre-proposal meeting followed by a site visit at 10 a.m. Sept. 30. The meeting will begin at the City of Charleston Parks Department, 823 Meeting St. (second-floor conference room).
Questions about the RFP are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 9, and answers to those questions will be published by 5 p.m. Oct. 16. Proposals are due by 5 p.m. Oct. 28, 2015.
The Hampton Park Revitalization Plan, approved by Charleston City Council in August, outlines an opportunity to create a more diverse use of Hampton Park through the renovation of the former police stables and superintendent’s cottage at the park’s northeast corner. Currently vacant, under the plan these facilities will be transformed into a multi-use community center.
The plan also envisions the revival of the vacant snack bar near the park’s lagoon as a family-friendly cafe. The site could become a hub for art installations and other public events as well as a meeting point for the surrounding neighborhoods.
