Charleston Promise Neighborhood receives $10,000 match gift
April 23, 2020Funds Committed by Local Philanthropists, Walker and Eddie Buxton
On May 5, 2020, Charleston Promise Neighborhood (CPN) is participating in Giving Tuesday Now, a global day of unity and giving. CPN will be raising funds to further their current efforts of providing utility assistance and gift cards from local grocers to the families in their service area.
To encourage others to give to the cause, local philanthropists, Walker and Eddie Buxton have graciously committed $10,000 through their WEP Foundation to CPN to match donations received through their Giving Tuesday Now campaign. All donations, including the match funds, will go directly back into supporting the community.
Normally at work in the neighborhood schools, which are now closed due to the current pandemic, CPN has remained proactive in looking for ways to continue to support their students and families. The needs of their community are greater than usual and together with other local nonprofits, CPN is doing everything possible to ensure community stability during these unprecedented times.
All donations given to CPN between now and May 5, 2020, will be put towards the match goal. To make a donation, please visit charity.gofundme.com/supportcharlestonpromise.
About Charleston Promise Neighborhood:
Incorporated in 2010, Charleston Promise Neighborhood (CPN) was founded by Charleston County, the cities of Charleston and North Charleston, and the Charleston County School District (CCSD), and was created to ensure that every child and family has the supports needed to thrive. CPN’s intent is to transform a 5.6 square mile area known as the “Neck”, which has been lagging behind in economic, educational and social indicators for the last 25 years. To combat the challenges of its under-resourced area, CPN implements evidence-based initiatives in four Title I CCSD elementary schools–Chicora, James Simons, Mary Ford, and Sanders-Clyde–to provide additional opportunities for our students to learn, thereby closing opportunity gaps and accelerating achievement. CPN’s focus areas include education, healthcare, and parenting & community engagement. For more information, visit www.charlestonpromise.org.
