October 14, 2019

Cherith Norman Chalet, a 1998 Bob Jones University graduate, was recognized as the 2019 Alumnus of the Year at BJU’s Homecoming Kickoff Ceremony Friday, Oct. 11, in Founder’s Memorial Amphitorium. The award is given annually by Alumni Relations to an alumnus who exhibits character and involvement that is an example to all BJU alumni.

“Many of our alumni joined us for our annual Homecoming and Family Weekend celebration. We are grateful to have graduates who are making a positive impact around the globe,” said BJU President Steve Pettit. “It was an honor to have Cherith back on campus for the kickoff event. Her selfless commitment to public service is admirable and was an inspiration to our student body.”

After graduating from BJU with a BA in history, Chalet worked for Congressman Jim DeMint. From 2008 to 2011, she served as special advisor to the United Nations and senior advisor to the Bureau of Legislative Affairs at the State Department in Washington, D.C. Chalet later served as the UN Management and Reform Counselor. As a delegate to the UN’s budget committee, she and her staff monitor and report on the billions of dollars that flow through the institution.

In 2018, she was nominated by President Donald Trump to be the Ambassador for UN Management and Reform and was confirmed by the Senate in September of that year. She also serves as the alternative representative to the General Assembly of the United Nations.

“Because Cherith exemplifies faithfulness to the Lord and His calling on her life, a legacy of grace in a larger alumni family, and the blessings of God’s favor on her work, we were honored to present her with the 2019 Alumnus of the Year Award,” said John Matthews, Vice President for Advancement and Alumni Relations.

Cherith and her husband George reside in New Jersey and have three young children.
