Chimney Rock to Reopen June 27 Following Nine-Month Recovery from Hurricane Helene

June 9, 2025

After exactly nine months of closure and intensive recovery work following the impact of Hurricane Helene, Chimney Rock at Chimney Rock State Park is set to officially reopen to the public on Friday, June 27.

The park’s reopening marks a significant milestone in the region’s recovery from the historic storm, which caused extensive damage to trails, infrastructure, and natural features throughout the park. Since then, teams have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to restore safe access to one of North Carolina’s most beloved outdoor destinations.

“We’re incredibly grateful for the support, encouragement, and patience shown by our community, Annual Passholders, and visitors during this extended closure,” park officials shared. “It’s been a long road, but we’re thrilled to welcome everyone back to the trails very soon.”

To ensure a smooth and safe experience, reservations will be required for all guests, including Annual Passholders. Initially, the park will be open Friday through Monday, and capacity will be limited as operations ramp up.

Reservations will open in the coming weeks at chimneyrockpark.com. Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, secure their spots early, and follow the park’s official updates for the latest information.

Chimney Rock’s reopening not only signals the return of a cherished natural landmark, but also a renewed opportunity for outdoor recreation, tourism, and connection in Western North Carolina.
