Christ the King High School Ribbon Cutting Celebrates the Blessing of Their New Campus

August 26, 2013

COLUMBIA, SC – August 24, 2013 – The Diocese of Charlotte celebrated the blessing of their new campus with a ribbon cutting and welcome home ceremony held on Saturday, August 24. Bringing over three decades of Catholic and High School design experience to the project, The Boudreaux Group was able to help the Diocese realize their goal of a new high school that incorporated both Catholic tradition and a nourishing educational environment enhanced by abundant day lighting and state-of-the-art learning spaces.

Located in Kannapolis, NC, northwest of Charlotte, and situated on a dramatic site that once served as a quarry, the new high school features a commanding tower that serves as a focal point as viewed from the curving entry drive. Programmed for 300 students, the main school is just over 30,600 square feet. At the heart of the school is a chapel located adjacent to the central commons and café space, from which multiple learning communities radiate each with their own light-filled locker and restroom pods. The varied roof forms give identity to the individual learning communities. The classrooms are designed to accommodate flexible furnishings and interactive learning. Future expansion has been planned for including auditorium, media center and additional classrooms. A gymnasium has already been added to the project and is scheduled to be completed in September.

The project design team included Heather Mitchell, Randy Huth, David Wiesendanger, Josh Bucher and Dana Herron. Rodgers Builders constructed the building. All worked together to complete the building under a very aggressive schedule: four months to design and eight months to build.
