Citadel Professor named a Knight Commander of the British Commonwealth

Governor-General of Grenada bestows honor upon Professor Sir Mallory Factor KCN

The Citadel’s John C. West Professor of American Government and International Relations, Mallory Factor, will now be referred to as Professor Sir Mallory Factor KCN. The Governor-General of Grenada has awarded the Most Distinguished Order of the Nation to Factor for his contributions to the development of Grenada.

“We are proud to have such a dedicated leader with extensive knowledge of global economies and politics be named Knight Commander of Grenada,” said Connie Ledoux Book, provost and dean of the college.

During his time at The Citadel, Factor has taught courses on geopolitics and the American conservative traditionand directed a year-long speaker series that included guest lectures from former House of Representatives Speaker Newt Gingrich, former Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and former National Rifle Association President David A. Keene among many others.

Factor also played a critical role in developing The Citadel’s cadet intern partnership with the British Parliament. Each semester, the prestigious program gives two cadets the opportunity to work alongside some of the world’s most respected political leaders while representing the United States.

Factor’s association with Grenada began at the request of one of the country’s Ambassadors-at-Large to help advance its economy, culture and development. Over the past two decades, as a prominent academic and business advisor, he has promoted international delegations to the country and has provided Grenadians with extensive educational opportunities.

For many years, Factor served as vice-chairman of a New York state university and in this capacity, he led a campaign which resulted in granting 30 full scholarships for Grenadian students. He was also instrumental in recruiting over 700 students to the St. George’s University in True Blue, Grenada.

“I have been pleased to be of help to Grenada and Grenadians. It has been an honor to help this nation with development opportunities,” said Factor. “I am greatly surprised and deeply honored by this recognition.”

Factor is currently working alongside Ambassador Michael Melnicke to encourage additional investment, and to bring more affordable housing to the country.

Factor and his wife, Lady Elizabeth, currently reside in Oxford, United Kingdom where he is visiting senior fellow at the University of Oxford and a member of the school’s St Edmund Hall and Christ Church.
