City Announces Call for Nominations for Service Scholarships

COLUMBIA, SC – September 17, 2009 – Nominations are being accepted for the 2010 E. W. Cromartie Dream Keeper Scholarship Awards in honor of the late Dr. Martin Luther King.

Each year as part of the city’s Martin Luther King Day Celebration, five students are awarded Dream Keeper scholarships. The E.W. Cromartie Dream Keeper Award recognizes exemplary displays of committed service to the tenets of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

The nominee must be a student 18 years or younger with at least a 2.0 grade point average and a minimum of one year of documented community service.

Winners will be announced at the City of Columbia’s annual Martin Luther King Day Celebration Monday, January 18, 2010 at 4 p.m. at the Martin Luther King Park and Community Center, 2300 Green Street. DEADLINE: Applications must be turned in to the City of Columbia Department of Parks and Recreation Administration Office by January 8, 2010.
