City announces Greenville Poinsettia Christmas Parade grand marshal

The City of Greenville has selected Sandi Morris, a Greenville native and Olympic medalist, to serve as grand marshal for the 2016 Greenville Poinsettia Christmas Parade. Morris will lead over 75 units in the annual parade scheduled for Saturday, December 3 at 6 p.m. on Main Street. “I am very honored and excited that I will be able to make it home to take part in such a wonderful event,” said Morris.

Morris is a graduate of Greenville High School where she was a record-setting pole vaulter and all-state volleyball player. After two years competing in track and field at the University of North Carolina she transferred to the University of Arkansas, where, in addition to taking home a NCAA Indoor National Championship and four All-American honors, she set University of Arkansas records for both the indoor and outdoor pole vault. After graduating with a degree in broadcast journalism in 2015, Morris competed on two World Championships teams, won a silver medal at the 2016 Indoor World Championships and made the US Olympic team. She made her Olympic debut in Rio this summer, where she won a silver medal in women’s pole vault.

The one-mile parade route will stretch from Augusta Street to North Street on Main Street and feature musical marching groups, elaborately decorated floats and, of course, Santa Claus. The parade is free to the public and spectators will find ample places to view the parade, with prime seating located from the Main Street Bridge south toward Falls Park.
