City Center Partnership helps light up Main Street district with 10,000 decorative lights

August 22, 2016

City Center Partnership (CCP) is pleased to announce that trees along the 1200 to 1700 block of Main Street will be lit up year-round. Ten thousand LED lights were installed by Mosca Design. CCP paid the upfront cost of $24,766, and the City of Columbia will assume the maintenance and electric costs for the new lights.

“Our partnership with the City is greatly appreciated,” said Matt Kennell, president & CEO of City Center Partnership. “These new lights will beautify and add a warm and welcoming glow to the Main Street District for years to come.”

“This project is another great example of the City and City Center Partnership working together to enhance the downtown experience,” said Melissa Gentry, Assistant City Manager. “The lights will certainly bring a new appeal to an already vibrant and lively Main Street.”

“I’ve been asking for lights to be installed on the trees along Main Street for many years,” said Terry Davis, a Main Street resident. “The lights make the street look friendlier, inviting, and safe. I am thrilled that they have been installed, and I want to thank CCP for making this happen!”

“The new tree lights are going to be a great addition to the Main Street District,” said Jeremy Becraft, General Manager of Mast General Store. “As more businesses and residents come to downtown, the lighted trees will create an inviting experience to those who live and play on Main Street.”

“For years we have been talking about our desire to have lights in the trees on Main Street, and we could not be more thrilled to see it come to fruition with a partnership with CCP and the City,” said Martha Fowler, Main Street property owner. “Main Street is changing on an almost daily basis, and the lights just make people feel safer.  Thank you to everyone who worked so hard to make it happen!”
