Laurens City Council Approves Budget, Highlights Upcoming Events at May 27 Meeting
May 27, 2025The Laurens City Council convened at City Hall on Tuesday, May 27 at 5:30 p.m., with Mayor Nathan Senn opening the session by spotlighting the city’s proposed budget for the upcoming fiscal year beginning July 1.
Mayor Senn expressed gratitude to city staff for their hard work and careful planning that went into drafting the new budget. He emphasized that while state law requires a balanced budget, Laurens is proud to present one that includes no tax increases for residents. However, a salary and spending freeze will be in place to maintain financial stability.
“Months of thoughtful planning and fiscal responsibility made this budget possible,” Mayor Senn said. “Supporting local businesses is more important than ever, as they play a vital role in generating the revenue our city depends on.”
The Council unanimously passed the first reading of the $9.684 million budget.

Council Votes on City Land Sale
In other business, the Council unanimously approved an ordinance authorizing the sale of 24 acres of city-owned land located at TMS# 906-24-01-006in Hunter Industrial Park, on behalf of the Commission of Public Works.
Public Comments
During the public comment portion, local resident Patsy Adams urged the Council to consider allocating funds from the Economic Development Fee to support Main Street Laurens, a key initiative to revitalize the downtown area.
