City Councilman Will Brennan elected Chairman of the Central Midlands Council of Governments

City of Columbia District III Councilman Will Brennan was elected as Chairman for the Central Midlands Council of Governments on Thursday, June 1, 2023, during the Central Midlands Council of Governments’ Board Meeting.

“From funding for services for our Senior population, to road and infrastructure planning and management, to workforce and economic development planning, the COG has a reach that touches the quality of life of all the Citizens of Lexington, Newberry, Richland and Fairfield Counties.  With the accelerated growth of the Midlands, it is important that we all work together for the ultimate Regional success.  I am honored to be elected Chairman by my colleagues and look forward to working with them on many successes for the residents of our great Counties, Cities and Towns. Great things can happen when we work together,” said Brennan.

Since 1969, the Central Midlands Council of Governments (CMCOG) has been assisting local governments develop local and regional plans within the four midlands counties (Fairfield, Lexington, Newberry, and Richland) of South Carolina, as well as providing local governments with planning and technical support to improve the quality of life within the region.

CMCOG currently consists of 15 member governments and serves in excess of 769,000 people by providing a regional forum, which allows local officials to seek out common goals and address regional concerns. Today, CMCOG provides a variety of local and regional planning services and technical assistance to local governments within the four-county region.
