City Gallery to host South Arts’ 2024 Southern Prize and State Fellowships Exhibition

The City of Charleston Office of Cultural Affairs is proud to present the 2024 Southern Prize and State Fellowships Exhibition, organized by South Arts, on view at City Gallery from June 27 through August 3, 2025. An opening reception will be held Friday, June 27, from 5 to 7 p.m. Free and open to the public.
This touring exhibition showcases recipients of the 2024 Southern Prize and State Fellowships, awarded annually to contemporary artists across nine Southern states. Since 2017, South Arts has provided direct financial support to exceptional visual artists through this competitive program. One State Fellow is selected from each state, and a separate jury awards the Southern Prize from among them.
The 2024 fellows featured in the exhibition are:
- Antony (Tony) M. Bingham – Southern Prize Winner (Alabama)
- Nelson Gutierrez (Tennessee)
- Robyn Moore (Kentucky)
- Zipporah Camille Thompson (Georgia)
- Isys Hennigar (North Carolina)
- Brooke P. Alexander (Mississippi)
- Macon Reed (Louisiana)
- Charles Clary (South Carolina)
Curated by Shannon Lindsey, Associate Lecturer and Gallery Director at the University of Central Florida, the exhibition explores themes of identity, culture, oppression, and the reimagining of personal and collective histories. The featured artists work across diverse media including sculpture, ceramics, painting, photography, sound, and mixed media.
