City of Cayce announces new Police Chief Byron Snellgrove

The City of Cayce is thrilled to welcome Byron Snellgrove as the new Cayce Police Chief. Chief Snellgrove will be taking the place of Charles McNair who retired after 16 years of service in Lexington County. Prior to accepting the role as Chief,Byron served as Public Safety Lieutant, Patrol Operations and Training Division Commander for the Cayce Department of Safety since 2013.

Chief Snellgrove started his career in law enforcement over 25 years ago at the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Department, working his way up the ranks and focusing on the narcotics unit, until joining the Cayce Department of Public Safety in April 1997. In October 2001, Chief Snellgrove joined the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department as Master Deputy, Narcotics Enforcement Team. Finally, after serving as Master Deputy in the Warrant Division for Lexington County, Chief Snellgrove joined the Cayce Department of Public Safety as Public Safety Sergeant in October 2012.

“As a Certified Internal Affairs Investigator, Police and Fire Instructor, and NRA Pistol Instructor, Byron Snellgrove has proven leadership skills and was the best choice for our city and community as our Public Safety Chief”, said City Manager Rebecca Vance.

Additionally, Chief Snellgrove is certified as an Emergency Response to Terrorism Instructor, Hazard Materials and Technician Instructor, and a Weapons of Mass Destructions Live Agent Instructor. Chief Snellgrove is also a former member of the University of South Carolina Pistol Team, Former Advisor of the South Carolina Association of Law Enforcement Explorers, and former State Secretary in SC Gang Investigators Associations.
