Judges report that it was difficult to choose

CAYCE, SC – June 5, 2009 – The top twelve photos have been chosen for the City of Cayce’s Second Annual Amateur Photography Contest for the 2009-2010 citizens’ calendar.

First-place winner, Nicholas McGee, will receive $100 cash prize and the privilege of showcasing his photograph, “Cayce the Fire Engine” on the calendar cover. McGee’s print is entitled, “Cayce the Fire Engine,” a vibrant red fire engine waiting in the firehouse bay.

Second-place winner Meghan Whitman’s entry captures a portrait of a young boy enjoying the ultimate pleasure, a Krispy Kreme doughnut. Third-place winner, Tena Kelly’s “Rose in the Garden,” features a pre-school girl smelling flowers in a peaceful garden. All participants will receive a Reflections of Cayce poster and a City of Cayce T-shirt.

“There were so many quality photographs submitted, it was difficult for the judges to make a decision on the winner,” Said Mayor Elise Partin. “Each entry demonstrated both talent and pride in the community.”

The photographs were judged by a panel of local public relations and media professionals. Every entry captures a certain charm and appeal of Cayce and what each amateur photographer appreciates most about the community.

The calendar is filled with helpful information and important dates to know about the city. Beginning July 21st, the calendars will be available in City Hall on a first-come, first-served basis, due to the limited supply ordered.

All winners will be recognized at the City of Cayce Council Meeting at City Hall on July 7th.
