City of Cayce Named 2013 Tree City

June 9, 2014

CAYCE, SC – The City of Cayce announced it has been named a 2013 Tree City USA by theArbor Day Foundation in recognition of its dedication to effective urban forest management and promoting the importance of trees in the Cayce community.

The City achieved Tree City USA recognition by meeting the program’s four requirements: a tree board or department; a tree-care ordinance; an annual community forestry budget of at least $2 per capita; and an Arbor Day observance and proclamation. The Arbor Day Foundation annually recognizes cities that show a commitment toward community improvement through a focus on trees. On December 6, 2013, Mayor Elise Partin and City officials planted a new tree at the Cayce City Hall Complex in honor of Arbor Day.

“It’s an honor to receive this recognition and show the members of our community that the City of Cayce is dedicated to highlighting how important trees and green spaces are to the Midlands,” stated Mayor Elise Partin. “Not only are they an asset to the environment, but they also help beautify our City. We are focusing on promoting trees, green spaces and urban development as a future investment for our community.”

There are 3,434 Tree City USA communities nationwide, including 41 in South Carolina.
