City of Charleston to host webinar regarding Johns Island Restoration Plan to Improve Flood Resiliency

June 17, 2021

The city of Charleston Stormwater Department will host a virtual webinar to discuss flood resiliency on Johns Island at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 17, 2021 via Zoom.

The webinar is being held as part of the department’s ongoing Johns Island Restoration Plan to Improve Flood Resiliency, which seeks to build on recommendations from the Dutch Dialogues. It will include discussion of historical and current drainage patterns, as well as how future restoration project types may assist with long term flood resiliency.

About the plan: Utilizing a grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, the city has engaged a team led by WK Dickson & Co., Inc., Biohabitats, Inc. and Planners for Environmental Quality to assist with this effort.

The goals of the project are to identify existing natural drainage systems for preservation and protection, and to identify ecosystem restoration projects in order to reduce flooding.
