City of Clinton Holds Seventh Annual Legislative Luncheon

November 22, 2020

On Friday, November 20th the City of Clinton held the seventh annual Legislative Luncheon.  The event is an opportunity for state and local legislators to update local officials on things that may impact the city and for the Mayor and city representatives to provide an update on the work being done by the city.

The event was held at The Cotton Loft on Main Street, which represents one of the many successes for the city of Clinton in recent years.  The beautiful event venue, which was once a warehouse, is now a very adaptable event venue and something much needed.

In his remarks, Mayor Bob McLean noted that we have made more investment in the city of Clinton in the past five years than in the previous fifty years.  He thanked state and local legislators, and city administration for their efforts on behalf of the city.

Some of the growth and investment highlights mentioned include:

  • Building two spec buildings at exit 54 on Interstate 26 (and perhaps being the only city in the state to build its own spec buildings
  • Landscaped the interchange at exit 54 complete with signage to increase visibility
  • Opening of Zaxbys and Arbys at exit 54
  • Securing the QT Fuel Center which is currently under construction also at exit 54
  • Breaking ground on the new 168-acre recreation complex
  • Purchase and renovation of the now “Cotton Loft” event venue
  • Two downtown buildings gutted and remodeled
  • Several new businesses – Burger King, Dollar Tree, Ace Hardware and Big Boys Restaurant
  • Relocation and expansion of Sadler Hughes Apothecary to new building in coming weeks

Additionally, the city has purchased the Founders Credit building and relocated the utility billing depart here.  This allows customers to use the drive thru window to pay their bills.

McLean also reported that the city of Clinton has received close to a million dollars in infrastructure grants.

Those in attendance also received an update from SC Representatives Mark Willis and Doug Gilliam.

Despite the challenges that 2020 has brought, the city of Clinton has made great progress.
