City of Clinton Issues Reminder on Debris Collection Guidelines
March 3, 2025The City of Clinton is reminding residents of important guidelines regarding the collection of yard debris, wood, and construction materials as the community continues to recover from the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.
City officials have emphasized that all debris placed at the curb must comply with existing City Codes & Ordinances to ensure safe and efficient collection by City vehicles. Specifically, the City’s collection trucks cannot collect wood, limbs, or stumps that exceed 6 inches in diameter or 4 feet in length. Any oversized wood debris left at the curb after Hurricane Helene must be cut down to meet these ordinance requirements before City crews can collect it.
Additionally, the City is reminding residents that, per City Ordinance, any construction or landscaping materials generated by a contractor must be removed and properly disposed of by the contractor. These materials should not be placed at the curb for City collection.
To help streamline the collection process, residents are also asked to keep different types of debris separated. Piles of wood, leaves, and manmade items (such as furniture or building materials) must be placed individually. If items are mixed together in a single pile, the City will not collect the pile.
Collection crews also need clear and safe access to debris piles. Any items placed under power or cable lines, near fire hydrants, utility poles, traffic signs, or on personal property outside the right-of-way will not be collected.
City officials note that debris collection remains behind schedule as crews continue working to address the large amount of debris left in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Residents are asked to place their items at the curb and leave them in place until crews are able to reach their area.
The City of Clinton’s Department of Public Works appreciates the community’s patience and understanding during this ongoing cleanup effort. Residents with questions can contact the department at 864-833-7520 for further information.
