City of Columbia debris removal underway today

Select Garbage Service Also to Start Thursday, Oct. 8th

The City of Columbia Solid Waste Division is now collecting storm debris from citizens throughout its service area and will continue this collection through the weekend.

The following items are now being picked up:

  • Construction debris; soiled carpets, spoiled dry wall, wood, etc.
  • Electrical debris and small appliances; broken coffee makers, computers, etc.
  • White goods and large appliances of any color; refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, etc.
  • Household garbage

The City requests that citizens sort their storm debris by these categories and place them at the curb. Crews will not enter private yards to collect these items.

Normal household garbage collection will resume on Thursday, October 8th. Recycling pick-up and yard waste have been suspended as City crews focus on debris removal. The City will provide an update when these services resume, which should be in the near future.

Citizens whose roll-carts were lost in the storm should call Solid Waste at 545-3800,MondayFriday from 8 a.m.5 p.m. or Customer Care at 545-3300 after hours to request a new cart.
