City of Columbia to host groundbreaking celebration to recognize revitalization efforts in Historic Lower Waverly/Martin Luther King community

Who: TN Development Corporation, Community Development Department, Mayor Daniel Rickenmann and Councilman Ed McDowell

What: The City of Columbia is hosting a groundbreaking celebration to recognize four single-family homes that are to be constructed in the Historic Lower Waverly/Martin Luther King community. The Community Development Department is providing $2.2 million in federal HOME Investment Partnership Program dollars to finance the project. Part of these funds will be going towards five single-family homes in the Jones McDonald Community Club Neighborhood.

TN Development Corporation is targeting citizens that quality for the City of Columbia Loan Program and first time homebuyers.

Key Requirements are below:

  • Applicants are required to attend a Homebuyer Education class from a HUD-certified institution and obtain a Certificate of Completion, which remains valid for 12 months.
  • Household income must not exceed program income limits (based on HUD guidelines).
  • Buyers must purchase an eligible property within the City of Columbia owned by TN Development Corp. and the City of Columbia only will be eligible.
  • Applicants CANNOT own any other improved property at time of closing of City Loan.
  • Property MUST be owner occupied as long as the City holds a mortgage
  • Purchasers must pay prepaid items.
