City of Columbia’s Homeless Services Ad Hoc Committee to convene with focus on sustainability and strategic outlook
April 7, 2025The City of Columbia’s Homeless Services Ad Hoc Committee will hold its next public meeting on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at City Hall to discuss progress, key insights, and forward-looking strategies in the City’s approach to addressing the chronically unsheltered population. This committee is chaired by Mayor Pro Tem Will Brennan, together with Councilwoman Aditi Bussells and Councilman Tyler D. Bailey, who bring collaborative leadership to the City’s efforts in supporting unsheltered individuals.
The meeting will include an update on how recommendations from the 2022 Task Force to Prevent and End Homelessness are being actively implemented, marking meaningful steps forward in service delivery and community impact.
Committee members will also review findings from the 2024 Point-in-Time (PIT) Count conducted in January, which indicates a slight but progressive increase in the unsheltered population. This data will help shape forward-looking strategies that reflect real-time community needs.
An operational update from Kameisha Heppard LMSW, Director of Homeless Services, will highlight their evolving management of professional service contracts, aimed at improving workflow, efficiency, and reducing reliance on general fund dollars, which is a critical step toward more sustainable and scalable service delivery. The meeting will also introduce the Homeless Services Blueprint, a strategic outlook featuring upcoming partnership discussions, service expansions, community engagements, and long-term visioning.
As part of its mission to address the root causes of individuals being chronically unsheltered, City of Columbia Homeless Services remains committed to providing transitional and permanent housing, supportive programs, and meaningful community engagement that supports individuals experiencing being chronically unsheltered in Columbia.
