At last night’s City Council meeting, City Administrator Scott Whittier announced that the City of Georgetown was named a 2025 Tree City USA in honor of its commitment to plant, grow and maintain trees to benefit the community. In doing so, he credited the commitment of the City’s Tree Department in promoting the caring and the importance of our trees.

The Foundation’s Tree City USA program is celebrating its 50th recognition season. For five decades, Tree City USA has rallied passionate local leaders to enhance the livability and sustainability of their communities. Tree champions like Georgetown are leading the way in a growing movement to shape a better future with trees and actions,” said Michelle Saulnier, Vice President of Programs at the Arbor Day Foundation.

“We are honored to receive the Tree City recognition from the Arbor Day Foundation. Our city is fortunate to have an experienced arborist on staff and a team that understands the significance and importance trees provide to our environment, our neighborhoods, and our quality of life. We will continue to be committed to responsible tree management, said Mayor Jay Doyle

The City of Georgetown is a designated Tree City USA allowing it to receive this recognition. To earn Tree City recognition, a city must uphold four core standards including maintaining a tree board or department, having a community tree ordinance, spending at least $2 per capita on urban forestry, and participating in an Arbor Day celebration.
