City of Laurens Invites Children to Share Visions of the Future for Time Capsule
June 10, 2026The City of Laurens is calling on young voices to help shape a piece of history. As part of the city’s celebration of America’s 250th anniversary of independence, Mayor Nathan Senn has launched a time capsule project inviting children to write letters imagining what America and the world will look like in 2126.
The City of Laurens Time Capsule, engraved with the city seal and commemorating 250 years of independence from 1776 to 2026, will be sealed during the city’s Freedom Fest celebration on July 3, 2026.
Children are asked to write a one-page letter sharing their thoughts on what life will be like 100 years from now. Topics to consider include what Laurens might look like in 2126, how people will live, work, learn and have fun, what inventions or discoveries may exist, and what hopes they hold for the future.
Letters must include the child’s name, age, school if applicable, and a parent or guardian’s contact information. The deadline to submit is June 26, 2026.
