City Roots is in the Running for Two National Contests

COLUMBIA, SC – November 28, 2012 – City Roots, an urban farm locatedin downtown Columbia, has been selected as one of 10 national finalistsin Green America’s People & Planet Award forGreen Businessesrewarding green businesses for their contributions to a just andsustainable economy. The top three nominees receiving the most online votes will receive a $5,000 award.

Openedin 2009 by father and son, Robbie and Eric McClam, the 3.5 acre farm islocated in Columbia’s Rosewood Neighborhood, 1005 Airport Blvd. Itfeatures 75 varieties of fruits and vegetables. City Roots Farm doescrop rotations and cover cropping for soil fertility and pestmanagement. The farm also has a large composting operation.

Ericis also one of nine finalists chosen out of more than 100 applicants inthe U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance’s (USFRA) search for the “Facesof Farming and Ranching” national spokesperson.
