City Year Columbia welcomes organization champions to the Advisory Board

City Year Columbia, an education-focused organization that unites young adults for a year of service in high-need public schools has added three new members to their advisory board: Duane Cooper, Chris Brady-Wolfe and Edward Rawl.

According to Jim Irvin III, board chairman, the City Year Columbia advisory board voted on and unanimously approved the appointment of Duane Cooper, Chris Brady-Wolfe and C. Edward Rawl, as their newest board members.

Duane Cooper is the Executive Director of the SC House Democratic Caucus, Commissioner for the Columbia Metropolitan Airport (CAE) and formerly the Legislative and Advocacy Coordinator for the South Carolina School Boards Association. Mr. Cooper served as Regional Director for the Inez Moore Tenenbaum for Senate campaign in 2003.

Chris Brady-Wolfe is Direct Senior Reactor Operator Candidate for VC Summer Unit 2/3 Nuclear Station for the SCANA Corporation. Formally Mrs. Brady-Wolfe was Design Engineer for Nuclear Division at CB&I in Charlotte, NC. From 2007-2009 Chris played on the Ladies Professional Golf Tour (LPGA). Chris and her husband Jason, founder of Wolfe Solutions, will chair the 2017 City Year Ripples of Hope Gala.

C. Edward Rawl Jr, is Senior Counsel for Boeing of South Carolina in its Labor, Employment & Benefits Law Group. Mr. Rawl formerly worked as an associate with Fisher & Phillips and was appointed as vice director of the American Bar Association Young Lawyers Division’s Membership Board, and as co-chairman of the S.C. Bar Association’s Professional Development Committee. Mr. Rawl was also appointed to the American Bar Association Gender Equity Task Force.

City Year Columbia is grateful to have the continued support of their current and past advisory board members. According to City Year Columbia Executive Director & VP, Gail Wilson-Giarrationo, this year, 24 City Year Columbia AmeriCorps members serve in Richland County School District One and Lexington Four School District to provide support to students who face the greatest risk of dropping out. Working side-by-side with teachers, corps members use research-based tools to improve students’ attendance, behavior and course performance in math and English. AmeriCorps members also lead afterschool programs and school-wide initiatives to improve school culture.
