Clear Bag Policy Announced for Upcoming Stand Up for Life Rally at South Carolina State Capitol Complex

January 8, 2025

The South Carolina Bureau of Protective Services (SCBPS) has announced the implementation of a clear bag policy for the upcoming Stand Up for Life rally, set to take place at the South Carolina State Capitol Complex on January 11, 2025, at noon. This measure is being enacted to enhance security and ensure the safety of attendees in light of recent national events.

Visitors to the rally will be required to pass through a security checkpoint and adhere to the new protocol, which permits only one approved clear bag per attendee. The SCBPS has provided guidelines on approved bags to streamline entry:

  • Clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bags or backpacks of any size
  • One-gallon clear plastic freezer bags (e.g., Ziploc or similar)

Exceptions will be made for:

  • Diaper bags
  • Medically necessary bags
  • Equipment bags for credentialed media

However, any exception will require additional screening before entry.

The SCBPS, a division of the South Carolina Department of Public Safety, is tasked with safeguarding South Carolina citizens, employees, and officials at the State Capitol Complex. By implementing the clear bag policy, the SCBPS aims to minimize potential risks while maintaining a welcoming environment for attendees.

For more details on the clear bag policy, visit SCBPS’s website.

Additionally, attendees are encouraged to report any suspicious activity during the rally to on-site law enforcement officials, by calling the BPS Emergency Line at 803-734-2422, or by dialing 911.

The SCBPS appreciates the cooperation of the public and media in sharing this information to ensure a safe and secure rally experience for all participants.
