Clemson celebrates alumni entrepreneurs

CLEMSON, SC – February 23, 2010 – Clemson University will honor two of its alumni at the fifth annual Clemson Celebration of Alumni Entrepreneurs at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, February 25, at the Madren Center.
Leighton Cubbage of Simpsonville, a 1977 Clemson graduate in political science, and Andy Monin of Atlanta, a 1994 graduate in political science, were selected by a panel from the Spiro Institute for Entrepreneurial Leadership at Clemson to recognize individual entrepreneurs who have had serial enterprises with notable success.
Cubbage is currently with Serrus Partners, a prominent investment fund built to leverage cash in the real estate market. Previously, he played an active role in developing numerous companies including New South, NuVox, Upstate Automotive, Ionosphere, Greenville Journal, E.C. Transportation and Greenville First Bank.
After graduating at Clemson, Cubbage attended the Advanced Management Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. In 1993, as a result of his numerous successful entrepreneurial endeavors, he was named South Carolina Entrepreneur of the Year. He has also served as chairman of the Greenville Hospital System University Medical Center for two terms and founded Corporate Telemanagement group, an INC 500 company.
Monin is chairman and CEO of Vendormate, a market leader in providing credentialing and compliance monitoring services to more than 800 hospitals and banks across the United States. In 2008, the company was ranked one of the fastest growing companies in Atlanta by the Atlanta Business Chronicle.
Previously, Monin co-founded BroadSource, a telecommunications expense management software and solutions company selected as one of Georgia’s Top 40 Most Innovative Companies in 2005. He played a critical role in raising more than $12 million of venture capital and private placement for BroadSource and Vendormate.
