Clemson, Duke Energy host Women Excel Leadership Exchange

January 19, 2017

A leadership exchange that will help women in business identify their strengths and weaknesses and explore new strategies for success will kick off Feb. 8 in Greenville through a partnership between Duke Energy and the Clemson University MBA program.

“Women Excel Leadership Exchange” participants will receive a continuing education certificate from Clemson’s Center for Corporate Learning. The leadership event will commence with a daylong session Feb. 8, followed by three power lunch sessions in February and March and an encore dinner/speaker event in April.

“Business women in the Upstate asked us to expand on the roundtable series we host each spring and the Women Excel Leadership Exchange is the result,” said Gail DePriest, Clemson MBA program senior lecturer. “The Leadership Exchange is an opportunity for entrepreneurial women in corporate or individual ventures to recalibrate and identify their skills and how to best use them.”

DePriest said participants will learn from other business leaders by exploring best practices, sharing insights and examining new research on successful business strategies. “Participants will come out of this with leadership skills that will optimize their performance and impact on their careers so that they can achieve success at the highest levels.”

Topics will include entrepreneurship, intrapreneurship (entrepreneurship within an established company), inspiring and influencing, building a personal brand, negotiating and crucial conversations, to name a few.

In addition to being exposed to neuroscience practices that are helping successful companies outperform the competition, participants will create a board of advisers for their personal development.

“The board of advisers will be small groups facilitated by a professional coach who will help women identify their strengths and weaknesses,” DePriest said. “Their personal leadership challenges will be addressed and they will be given guidance on developing a personal action plan.”
