Clemson speaker to talk about profiting from the economic recovery

CLEMSON, SC – March 4, 2011 – John Helmers, chief investmentofficer of Swiftwater Capital Management in Greenville, will speak on“The Coming Economic Recovery and How to Profit from It” at 5 p.m.Friday, March 4, at Clemson at the Falls, 55 E. Camperdown Way,Greenville.

Helmers’ lecture is part of the monthly Leadership Seminar Series by the Clemson University College of Business and Behavioral Science. Areception will follow his presentation.

Swiftwater Capital Management is an asset management firm Helmersfounded in 2004. The firm implements a value-based strategy in itslong-only equity hedge fund.

Helmers began his career as a fixed-income trader at J.P. MorganSecurities before becoming an independent market maker in the bond pitof the Chicago Board of Trade. He joined the J. Aron division of Goldman Sachs in 1992 and ran the Goldman Sachs Commodity Index (GSCI)business, managing more than $1 billion of GSCI-indexed money.

Following his departure from Goldman Sachs in 1997, Helmers was aportfolio manager for Tudor Investment Corp., where he traded a macrobook. He left after six years to join Satoha, a long/short equity fundwith a macro overlay. From 2004 through 2007, Helmers actively managedthe Swiftwater Capital portfolio. He joined Citadel Investment Group in2008, managing a macro investment portfolio until early 2010, when hereturned to Swiftwater.

Helmers graduated with honors from Princeton University with a degree in engineering in 1987.
