Clemson to webcast wind-turbine facility groundbreaking ceremony

NORTHCHARLESTON, SC – October 25, 2010 – Clemson University will stream liveon the Internet Thursday’s groundbreaking ceremony for the wind-turbinedrive-train testing facility at the Clemson University RestorationInstitute.
The ceremony begins at 11:30 a.m. and is scheduled to last an hour. Toview the webcast, follow the link on the university home page at www.clemson.edu, the Restoration Institute site at www.clemson.edu/restoration or go to this link.
Speakers at the event will include Clemson University President JamesF. Barker; David H. Wilkins, chairman of the board of trustees; andJohn Kelly, executive director of the Restoration Institute and Clemsonvice president for economic development. Guest speakers will includeSen. Lindsey Graham, Rep. James E. Clyburn and North Charleston MayorR. Keith Summey.
On Nov. 23, 2009, the U.S. Department of Energy awarded the RestorationInstitute and its partners a $45 million grant, which was combined with$53 million of matching funds, to build and operate a large-scalewind-turbine drive-train testing facility at the institute’s researchcampus on the former Charleston Navy base.
