Clemson University Foundation board elects officers and new members

CLEMSON, SC — The Clemson University Foundation board of directors elected officers and three new members.
The board elected chairman Charles L. Sullivan Jr. of Hartsville for a second year and E. Mitchell “Mitch” Norville of Greenville vice chair, also for a second year.
Sullivan is retired executive vice president of Sonoco Products. He is a former Clemson student and is an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters of Coker College. He serves on the Coker College board and is its former chairman.
Norville is the owner of Atlantic South Development Inc. He is a 1980 Clemson graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has an MBA from the University of Virginia (1984).
The three new members joining the board are:
· Cheryl R. Holland of Columbia, the founder president of Abacus Planning Group Inc.
· Jonathan P. Weitz of Charleston, the CEO of Avocet Hospitality Group.
· Amy J. Yoder of Orlando, Florida, and formerly of Seneca, the CEO of Anuvia Plant Nutrients.
Charles L. Sullivan Jr. of Hartsville, who was elected chairman, is retired executive vice president of Sonoco Products. He is a former Clemson student and is an Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters of Coker College. He serves on the Coker College board and is its former chairman.
He is a member of the American Management Association, is the past chairman of the Associate Member Council of the Grocery Manufacturers Association and past president of the board of directors of the YMCA of the Upper Pee Dee.
He joined the Clemson University Foundation board in 2006. He and his wife, Betty, have two children.
Mitchell “Mitch” Norville of Greenville, the vice chairman, is the owner of Atlantic South Development Inc. He is a 1980 Clemson graduate with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and has an MBA from the University of Virginia (1984).
He has served on the Clemson University Foundation Board since 2009, most recently as chair of the Investment Committee, in addition to sitting on the Executive, Audit, Development and Human Resource committees.
He also chairs the College of Engineering and Science Dean’s Executive Cabinet and serves on Clemson’s Advancement Board for Real Estate Development.
Norville was the former executive vice president and chief operating officer of Boston Properties. He and his wife, Carla, have three sons.
New board members:
Cheryl R. Holland of Columbia is the founder president of Abacus Planning Group Inc.
She is a 1980 Bryn Mawr College graduate with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in economics.
She currently serves on the Bryn Mawr College board of trustees, and chaired the Investment Committee from 2002-2014. She also is a member of the American Bible Society board of trustees, serving as its secretary and on its Investment and Finance committees.
Holland formerly served as chair of the Clemson University College of Business and Behavioral Science Advisory Board and is a member of the Columbia College Endowment Investment Committee.
In 2015, Ms. Holland was honored as Barron’s top adviser in South Carolina and was listed on Barron’s 100 top Women Advisors. She was named an honorary alumna of Clemson University.
She and her husband, Doug, have one child.
Jonathan P. Weitz of Charleston is the CEO of Avocet Hospitality Group.
He is a 1990 Clemson graduate with a Bachelor of Science in financial management. He earned his law degree at the USC School of Law in ’96.
Weitz founded Avocet Hospitality Group in 2006 as a property management company specializing in vacation rentals on Folly Beach. Shortly thereafter he acquired and renovated the Oceanfront Holiday Inn at Folly Beach and converted it into an independent hotel called The Tides Hotel at Folly Beach.
In 2012, Avocet acquired The Vendue Inn and the adjoining Anchorage Inn located in downtown Charleston. The hotels were completely renovated in 2014 and rebranded as The Vendue, Charleston’s first and only art hotel. The Vendue recently was named the No. 4 Small City Hotel in the United States by Travel & Leisure magazine.
Avocet Hospitality also owns and operates St. Barth Exclusives, a vacation rental business overseeing more than 250 vacation properties on the Caribbean island.
Weitz and his wife, Lisa, have two children, Jessica and Jonathan.
Amy J. Yoder of Orlando, Florida, and formerly of Seneca, is the CEO of Anuvia Plant Nutrients.
She is a 1989 Michigan State University graduate with a Bachelor of Science in agricultural technology systems.
As a Clemson alumnus parent Yoder serves chairs Clemson University’s Vice President’s Executive Council for Student Affairs and formerly chaired The Will to Lead Capital Campaign Committee for Student Affairs.
Yoder is the president of Sigma Alpha Foundation and is an adviser to Sigma Alpha Sorority.
She is the former president of Arysta LifeScience and has served as a member of the board of directors for Compass Minerals and Ecoscraps. She is a member of the National Association for Corporate Directors and is a former operations consultant at Atlas Advisors. She was among Atlanta Woman Magazine’s Top 25 Women to Watch in 2008.
